Intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment is a lower level of care than day treatment, but is more rigorous than outpatient therapy. IOP is needed when traditional outpatient methods have failed or are deemed to be less than what is clinically necessary for the client. This determination is made based upon the impact the client’s behavioral and mental health problems have on level of functioning. IOP is also utilized as a step-down in level of care from day treatment. Clients may receive individual, family, group and psycho-education therapy services.
